Women on Long Island are answering the call to a New Evangelization. As the New Evangelization calls the laity to take ownership of bringing the “Gospel to all ends of the Earth,” so have a group of women on Long Island responded to that call. In 2012, Long Island Catholic Women’s Ministry held the first ever Long Island Women’s Conference. After 2012’s success Long Island Catholic Women’s Ministry is gearing up for the second annual conference scheduled for this weekend.
The second annual Catholic Women’s Conference titled, “Women of Faith: Transform our hearts, Lord, that we may transform the world,” will be held October 19,2013 at the Seminary of the Immaculate Conception in Lloyd Harbor, New York. The Conference is a day long event beginning at 9:00 A.M. and ending at 4:30 P.M.
Long Island Catholic Women’s Ministry has been growing over the last two years, emboldened by the success of last year’s conference. Christine Pennacchio, one of the conference’s organizers, said, “Now more than ever, in a world losing its faith and lost in the darkness of selfishness, humanity needs the witness of authentic womanhood to reinvigorate its reverence and love for life.”
With the conference scheduled for this Saturday, Pennachio also encouraged all women to come to this great event. She said, “Experience a powerful, prayerful day featuring speakers Rosemary Sullivan, Laurie Whitfield, Laura Giannuzzi, and Father Michael Duffy. There will be opportunities for Confession and fellowship. Praise and Worship Music will be led by Woods Worship. Mass will be celebrated. Our emcee for the day is Marianne Sheridan. And, just for fun, there will be raffles and shopping. Tickets are $30, $25 before August 15, Students with ID $20. All tickets include breakfast and lunch.”
Last year’s conference took place at Cure of Ars in Merrick, and due to its success have moved locations to the Seminary of the Immaculate Conception. Pennachio commented that 2012’s conference went extremely well and hopes more people experience the conference this year. “It was a beautiful day last year. Our speakers were wonderful and the ladies who attended really made the day great with how joyful and excited they were all day. We hope that women on Long Island will get to enjoy this beautiful day and be a part of it.”
The Catholic Ministry Team recommends that women in the tri-state area be sure to buy a ticket and attend this year’s conference on October 19.
